Global Institute of Event Management (GIEM), Hyderabad, is proud to start its journey with affiliation from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), offering a 1-year diploma program designed to equip students with industry-aligned event management skills.

Each of our students is empowered with modern laptops to support their learning and practical training.

NSDC recognition focuses on skill development with certification under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), ensuring graduates are ready for employment with hands-on expertise. Our immediate goal is to build a strong foundation in quality vocational training.

In the coming years, GIEM aims to elevate its status by aligning with the University Grants Commission (UGC) educational standards.

Pursuing UGC recognition will enable us to offer academically rigorous degree programs that are nationally and internationally recognized, supporting students’ academic aspirations and career growth.

Our stepwise approach ensures compliance with UGC norms, development of academic governance, and introduction of degree-level programs by our third year.

With this dual focus on skill mastery and academic excellence, GIEM is committed to becoming a premier institute for event management education, blending practical know-how with recognized academic qualifications.

The difference between NSDC and UGC recognition

The difference between NSDC and UGC recognition lies primarily in their scope, purpose, and the nature of qualification recognition:

NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) focuses on skill development through industry-aligned vocational training programs and certifications often linked to the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).

NSDC recognition pertains mainly to skill-based courses and diplomas, emphasizing employability and competency in specific trades or sectors. NSDC courses are usually shorter-term and designed in collaboration with Sector Skill Councils to meet industry needs.

UGC (University Grants Commission), on the other hand, is the statutory body governing university-level education in India. UGC recognition pertains to universities and their programs, ensuring they meet academic standards for degree and diploma programs.

UGC-recognized courses typically provide academic degrees that are nationally and internationally accepted for higher education and government employment.

For GIEM at Hyderabad, starting with NSDC affiliation to offer a 1-year diploma with 20 students (each receiving a laptop) is a strong foundation for vocational skill training. NSDC affiliation is quicker to obtain and focuses on skill-based certification.

To progress toward UGC recognition by the 3rd year and become eligible for university status, the recommended step-by-step approach is:

  1. First Year: Obtain NSDC affiliation and launch the 1-year diploma to establish credible skill-based training and build initial student base and infrastructure.
  2. Second Year: Develop academic and governance frameworks aligning with UGC norms. Begin building curriculum that bridges skill-based and academic depth. Seek accreditation from relevant bodies like the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).
  3. Third Year: Apply for university recognition with UGC. This involves:
    • Meeting infrastructure and faculty qualification standards as per UGC regulations.
    • Submitting a comprehensive proposal demonstrating compliance with the UGC Act.
    • Establishing academic governance, examination, and quality assurance systems.
    • Transitioning from NSDC diploma programs to UGC-recognized diploma or degree programs (e.g., Bachelor’s degree courses).
    • Possibly partnering with an existing UGC-recognized university for mentorship or joint programs initially.

This transformation allows GIEM to progress from skill certification to full degree-granting status recognized by UGC, enhancing credibility, academic depth, and student mobility for higher studies or government jobs.
